Older Puppy Potty Training Problems

Potty Training Problems With ...

Puppy And Dog Potty Training

Author: Scott Lipe

Dog Potty Training: For the older dog that needs to potty train, first you have to know why this is, is there an underlining medical reason? In this case have things checked out by your veterinarian before proceeding. Is it that she has not had an in-door home before? Whatever the reason may be training your dog is not that different to training a puppy to use a potty. The differences that stand out are the quantities of waste and fluid. On the up side, you have a dog with more control of their bowls and bladder.

Start with routines, regularly feed your dog at the same time. Use dry pet foods as this help with more solid bowl movements and so are easier to clean up. Ten to fifteen minutes after feeding your dog take them to the potty area and use a chosen command say "Toilet" or the word you have decided to use. Do not allow the dog to get distracted with toys or the hope of play time, keep things low key, repeat as needed. When the dog has used the potty area give loads of praise, really help them to understand that they have done the right thing in the right place.

Maybe after you can have a game with them to reward them for their great work. Keep repeating what you are asking of them and where you want them to potty. If you see your dog turning in circles or sniffing the ground take them to their potty area and repeat the command you have chosen, if they use the potty area, praise, praise, and more praise.

Training an older dog is harder than a puppy as they have learnt bad habits. They need watching often, and this can be a problem for the owner. There are potty training mats available in the market that can hold more waste than old news papers and also lock in the smell. For the older dog, they can be beneficial as scenting and wanting to re-scent can be an issue.

Having a crate can be of benefit for your dog as they hate to lie in waste or urine. The crate needs to be the right size for your dog, with enough room for the dog to lie down, but not big enough for the dog to use one end as the potty area and one end to sleep. If you do use a crate, please make sure your dog is exercised before placing them in the crate. Build up the time the dogs has in the crate, and remember crate uses is not instead of the training to use the potty area.

Make sure you take up water and food away from your dog a few hours before bed, and that you have walked or taken your dog to the potty area before you retire for the night. Training an older dog to use a potty can seem daunting and it is a task that has to be consistently done for the results that you want. Like with puppies never hit or shout at your dog for accidents.

If you catch them soiling in the wrong place, say "no" move them quickly to the right place, if they then potty in the right place praise and make a fuss of them. Keep working with your dog and over time you can help them to change and be the dog you want.

Tips On Crate Training Dogs

Crate Training Dogs: Here's ...

Crate Training Dogs

Author: Christian Ray Dinopol

Training your dog for the crate is very beneficial for your dog and for you. It's a safe and comfortable space for your dog, actually it is less stressful for your dog. It gives your dog a space of his own so he can relax and give you a little time to relax too, knowing that he is safe and comfortable.

When training your dog, you should never force it, gradually introduce your dog to the crate and let him know it's not punishment or a way to seclude him. It's a place to keep him safe when you are not home, as well a place of his own. It's very beneficial for when your dog has surgery or you need to travel.

Crate training dogs isn't a form of cruelty, even though some people might view it that way. This is a very important step for your dog to learn. When done properly, it provides safety and someplace comfortable for him to retreat to and is a very valuable training tool. Training is most favored when in your dog is young, but isn't necessary.

Crate training dogs can be done in many ways and styles, but the most important thing to remember is to always us positive reinforcement. You can start by introducing your dog to the crate by saying to him "kennel" and let him get into the crate on his own, never push. The goal here is to have him feel comfortable. You can try and put treats in the crate, and placing a soft blanket in the crate also. Speak to him in a happy voice, keep it positive.

When he feels comfortable and gets used to entering the crate on his own, you can put his food dish inside close to the opening, and in time gradually place the dish further in the crate, and eventually you can close the door while he eats. At this time you will be able to have him stay in the crate in short periods of time while you are home, and longer periods of time alone.

Make sure you put him in the crate about 15 to 20 minutes before you leave, and to have him also in the crate when you are home. This will keep him from thinking that by going into the crate, that you are leaving him, which can cause anxiety.

For keeping your dog from feeling isolated at night, you can place his crate in your bedroom or just outside your door. And then when he starts to sleep through the night, and this does not cause anxiety or any problems, you can put the crate in the spot you want. Don't worry if this takes a little time, every dog is different and learn at their own pace.

So using a crate for your dog is a great way to strengthen your relationship and to let your dog feel comfortable and safe. And safe and happy is what is most important.

Puppy Potty Training Free Advice

Puppy Training & Care : How ...

Pitbull Puppy Training Tips

Author: Jason

Pitbull Puppy Training Tips

Congratulations, on picking the perfect dog in my opinion. Pitbulls are hearty, strong, very loyal, energetic, and make a great all-around family pet. And training your Pitbull can be a very fun endeavor. I am a proud Pit-bull owner, and I am gonna show you some simple steps for training your new Pitbull, to be a happy, loving member of the family!

If you're new Pitbull is a puppy, then your training is gonna begin basically as soon as you get him or her home. Expect a lot of whining when you bring your new pit bull puppy home. Especially, at night because they have just been separated from their mother, and they are not yet familiar with there surroundings. This is completely normal for your new puppy, and is to be expected. What I did for training purposes to make my new Pit-bull puppy feel less stressed, was I put a sheet or a big blanket over his or hers cage, I had bought previously. This does work and calms your puppy down, it makes it less stressful for the puppy because it makes it darker in the cage, and more comfortable to sleep. Training tip: make sure you put out fresh papers for your new puppy, because he or she is not potty trained yet and nine times out of 10, will have an accident before you wake up in the morning.

House Training Your New Pit Bull Puppy

Breaking in your new young puppy to not go to the bathroom in the house is not very difficult at all, all you need is a little patience. Every time your puppy has an accident in the house. Here's a little tip that I used with my Pitbull Champ when he was a young puppy. You pat them on the nose very gently, and tell them bad - put their nose by where they had their accident, not in it but close to there mess so they know that they have done wrong. Immediately pick them up and put them outside to do their business. Once they have finished doing their business outside, and you let them in then make sure you tell them good boy or girl. Training Tip: If you have a tasty treat on hand that don't hurt either. Keep repeating this puppy training routine, and he or she will eventually get the hang of it, and will have no more accidents in the house.

What TreatsTo Buy Your New Pitbull  Puppy

Pit-bull puppies are just like any other puppy, and they are very mischievous and energetic. they will get into anything, and they will get into anything that they can get their little teeth around lol. They are just teething, and this is just a process of growing up. But you definitely need to take precautions so that he or she does not chew up things, that he or she is not supposed to. The corners of walls for example, if you have loose tiles, or linoleum on your floor be careful. My Pit - bull Champ had a lot of fun with my floor, this was my mistake because I left him unsupervised for a couple hours, which I should not have done! You should always put your new Pit bull puppy in a puppy proofed room, or his or her cage, if your gonna leave for a while. Make sure he or she has some tasty treats to gnaw on to keep them occupied. My personal favorite bone for my dog when he was a puppy, and even now he's 5 is called the Nylabone. It is specifically made for strong jawed dogs Pitbull, Rottweiler, German Shephard, etc...and is virtually indestructible. I highly recommend you purchase one of these dog bones.

Pitbull Puppy Exercise Tips

This is an easy tip, Pit-bulls in general are very active dogs, and they recommend at the bare minimum at least one hour of physical activity per day preferably more. But the bare minimum at least one hour. this can be a vigorous walk every day, or if you have a fenced in yard just let him or her run loose till they wear themselves out.

Train Your Pitbull Puppy For A Good Temperament

When I wasn't sure about Pitpulls in the past, I kind of fell into the stereotype that they are aggressive dogs that will attack you for the fun of it. After owning one I can say with the utmost certainty that my Pitbull is the best dog I have ever owned without a doubt! His temperament is second to none! He is actually the friendliest dog I have ever owned by far. Let's put it this way, Champ is now a healthy, happy, 5 year old adult Pitbull. And in those 5 years, I have never heard him growl even once, at another dog, or a person for that matter. I credit that to my training efforts with him, and being a caring loving owner. Treat and train your Pitbull right, and they will be your best friend for years, and years to come.

I wouldn't train my Pitbull in for the world, he is like a son to me, and I treat him as one. Congratulations on your new Pit-bull puppy, you made a great choice! I am confident with a little training, and love, they will be by your side to the very end. Dogs do not judge, are always smiling, and glad to see you when you get home from a hard days work to cheer you up. If your having a bad day, your dog or puppy, is always there for you to put that smile right back on your face. You are everything to your dog, your their hero, your all they've got in this world. They count on you! They will be your best friend if you let them. Treat, and train your new Pitbull puppy right, and they will bring you countless smiles, and laughter, and make your life that much more enjoyable!

Puppy Potty Training During Winter

 ... especially during winter

Keep Your Dog Or Puppy Safe During The Winter Holidays

Author: Bill Knell

It's the most wonderful time of the year for people, but not dogs. Thousands of our furry friends end up lost, injured or sick during the winter holidays. Take a few moments to learn how you can easily make this holiday season a safe and happy one for dogs and puppies.

The best way to keep pets safe over the holidays is to think of them as children. Like children, the dangers to your pet depend largely on their age, training and ability to follow simple commands. A new puppy is more at risk because they lack the training and experience to deal with increased holiday activity in a household.

Untrained pups tend to 'bolt' out of an open door or gate and may not be missed for hours. Pups can easily be stepped on while trying to navigate their way through all the extra feet. Children can accidentally injure a puppy during rough play if adults are too busy to monitor them. Prevent injury to your pup by setting up a playpen or using a child safety gate to create a safe place for your pet to access food, water and a potty area away from all the activity.

Dogs of all ages tend to be overfed during the holidays. It's natural for dogs to 'beg' for food. With all the extra cooking and eating, people feel guilty and give their pets lots of human food. This can make them sick and will add to the problem of obesity in older dogs. Never give chicken or turkey bones to dogs. They can splinter causing serious throat or internal damage.

Holiday plants such as mistletoe, poinsettias, lilies and holly can poison or make your dog very sick. These should be placed in areas that cannot be reached by dogs or younger children. Most kids instinctively pluck at plants, taste leaves and petals or offer them to pets.

Dogs that like to chew will try and make a meal of extension cords and electrical wires. Help your pet avoid a shocking experience by purchasing wire and cord protectors. Use pre-assembled Christmas Tree Light Sets. These easily wrap around the tree, tuck just inside branches and allow for connection to electrical sources near the top. This helps eliminate the danger of dangling light wires or loose extension cords under the tree.

Pet Owners that prefer traditional light sets should string their lights from the bottom of the tree up. Connect them to power sources near the middle or top of the tree. Dogs love to lay under or behind Christmas Trees. It's easy for them to become entangled in loose wires causing strangulation, injury to extremities or worse as they try to get loose. If they pull hard enough, the tree will probably fall on top of them.

If you decide on a real tree instead of an artificial one, you will have to pet-proof the area around it. Dogs tend to chew on or eat pine needles and drink tree water. The needles can cause internal damage. Freshness treatments contain chemicals or fertilizer and stale water is a breeding ground for bacteria.

Artificial trees pose a risk because of the decorations we place on them. Broken Christmas ornaments and light bulbs can get stuck in a dog's paw or mouth if they are chewed. If eaten, the sharp pieces will probably cause internal damage. Tinsel can cause an intestinal blockage.

Creating a safety zone between your dog and a Christmas tree can be accomplished in several ways. You can cut a real tree down to fit on a tabletop. Artificial trees assemble in sections and can be sized to fit on top of a table. Use gifts to fill in the space below. If you prefer the traditional floor to ceiling tree, screens or portable fencing can be used to keep pets and children away from the tree and gifts.

Most holiday pet problems involve strangers. If holiday visitors are unfamiliar with your pet situation, you cannot blame them when dogs are accidentally let out, given unhealthy treats or allowed to do things they shouldn't. If you're going to allow your dog to mingle, let holiday guests know what is and isn't allowed when it comes to your pet.

Now let's discuss the B word. Despite the best training in the world, it's almost impossible to predict how a dog will react to someone new. A dog BITE can cost you a lot of money and end up being a death sentence for your pet. Think twice before you allow your dog or puppy to roam freely in an area filled with strangers. Apart from biting, young children can be mangled or clawed by larger dogs that are suddenly frightened.

The holiday season is the time for wishful thinking when it comes to gifts, not pets. If you're not sure how your dog will react to seasonal changes in the home, take steps to protect your pet. As every parent or experienced pet owner knows, you only get one chance to protect and care for those you love.

Dog To Dog Aggression-Learn How To Stop Dog To Dog Aggression

Author: Gary Price

Tired of your four legged companion being aggressive towards other dogs? Are you looking for ways to learn how to stop dog to dog aggression? Although aggression is a difficult issue to deal with, there are different ways in which the issue can be resolved. Here are some tips for you to stop dog to dog aggression.

1 – The first step is to recognize your dog’s bodily signs of confrontation. He might stare at the other dog with the hair on the back on his neck standing. He may also flatten backwards and with a tilted head keep on staring at the other dog. This is the time to intervene, if you fail to intervene at this moment your dog may start barking or attack the other dog.

2 – While you learn how to stop dog to dog aggression, safety should be your first priority if you have a generally aggressive dog. Muzzle your dog to avoid injury to another dog.

3 – Socialize your dog as much as possible; however, you should keep him on a short leash. The more your dog encounters other dogs the less likely he will feel intimidated on spotting one.

4 - While you are on the sidewalk and another person approaches with his dog, stand in front of your dog blocking his view to the other dog and keep on speaking to him so that his attention is towards you and not the other dog. Praise your dog and perhaps give him a treat if he stays calm.

5 - You should control your own emotions while the dog is behaving aggressive. Do not yell still issue commands firmly. With your anxiety you can worsen his tension and make him to act more aggressively.

As you can see here learning how to stop dog to dog aggression can be a difficult and tedious process.  When working with an aggressive dog, a good dog training course can be very useful. You will want to look for the one that includes a free consultation with an experienced dog trainer.
