If you are the owner of an aggressive dog then it will be important for you to recognize the signs of aggression. Dogs can become aggressive for many reasons, check over the possible reasons below to see if any of these apply to your dog.
Medical Condition - Dogs can be aggressive when in pain, just like humans. Take your dog to the vet to get checked out for any possible medical problems that can cause aggression.
Pack Leader Problem - Your dog may think he is the alpha male in your pack. If this is the case then you may want to be firmer during your aggressive dog training to let your know dog you are the pack leader and he is just a follower.
Fear - Your dog may have an anxiety problem which causes him to lead a fearful life. Fear will cause any dog snap, or growl at any family member, stranger, or other dogs. If you think you have an anxious dog please see your local vet.
Aggressive Owner - If you yourself is an aggressive owner who promotes aggressive behavior than without a doubt your dog will retain these aggressive techniques. Your dog will be aggressive towards family members, strangers, and other dogs.
Aggressive Dog Warning Signs
Every dog has the ability to bite if driven to that point. A good thing for us dog owners is that dogs will almost always give you a few warning signs for acting aggressive. These warnings signs will tell anyone near him that he is not in a good mood so you better back off. If a dog is going to become aggressive they will often times growl, snap, show their teeth, or have their ears pinned back. Some other typical signs of approaching aggression can include a hard stare with large eyes, panting, a stiff body, or hair standing up on their back.
If your dog is showing any of these signs DO NOT punish him for it. Punishing a dog for giving you a warning sign will show him you don't care about his warning signals. That means in the future your dog won't give you any signs and will just attack without warning. By yelling at an aggressive dog you can almost encouraging his aggressive behavior. Dog react to your reactions. If you get really emotional, and scream and yell, your dog will respond with his own high emotions. He may not be doing it to harm you because he is just matching your emotional high.
If your dog is fearful, anxious, or nervous by nature yelling at him for will only cause more fear in him and this will lead to aggressive behavior and possible injury to you or others. If you have an aggressive dog please act fast to correct this problem. Not only will an aggressive dog endanger you and your family, but you can run into legal issues with an aggressive dog, which could lead to you having to put your beloved dog down.
Every expert dog trainer will always recommend new dog owners start their dog obedience training early. The right time to start training your pup is anywhere between birth and 6 months of age. Being able to train your dog by the 6 month mark is crucial to your dogs future behavior. By socializing your young puppy to many different types of people and other animals, your dog will understand that people are good. It will teach your dog not to fear people and therefore help reduce the risk of aggressive dog behavior.
If your dog does happen to display aggressive behavior what you should do is let out a loud, firm "No". Remember you do not want to yell, but you want to be firm and try not to let your emotions get to high. Once you get your dogs attention with the firm "No", then you an perform what is called a "time-out". A time-out is when you place your dog in a room and close the door for about 30 seconds to a minute. After a few times you dog will comprehend that when you acts out he will be put away from you, the pack leader, and he will correct his behavior.
While your dog is playing with his toys, it is never a good idea to start a "tug-of-war" game with him. All this game does is encourage your dogs aggressive behavior. Your dog will think that this type of aggressive behavior is appropriate and continue it.
If your dog is aggressive towards other dogs while on a leash, one tip is to give a firm tug on the leash, or a firm "No" to get his attention. You want your dog to look up at you and away from the other dog. You want him to understand aggression towards other canines is not healthy behavior.
If you are an owner of an aggressive K9 then I hope this blog post has helped you in anyway. I have provided a video below for you about training aggressive dogs. Please leave some comments and let me know what you think.

The Holiday season is in full swing with decorations, planning upcoming events, and designing the family meal. As we begin to setup our homes with holiday plants such as poinsettias, holly, and mistletoe, we must remember that these as well as others are toxic to our pets. Dogs and especially cats like to chew on houseplants most of which are poisonous.
Keep an eye out for any electrical wires and batteries that might be within reach of your pet. Chewing and biting on cords will cause shock and larger dogs can easily swallow small batteries. Candles can give your home a fresh scent while adding ambiance, but left unattended on a low coffee table and a swinging tail will send them flying, possibly burning your pet or causing a fire.
Christmas trees too can be hazardous if your dog drinks the water. Tree water is often filled with preservatives that are poisonous while standing water will harbor bacteria that can cause digestive irritability and vomiting. Be sure to sweep or vacuum up any fallen needles as they can puncture your dog’s digestive tract if swallowed.
While it is very tempting for holiday guests, to give a little sample to your dog during the festivities it can result in disaster if over done. Set some ground rules or better yet during mealtime put your dog in his or her crate. Most holiday meals contain higher levels of fat, fresh herbs, and can be spicy all of which are not healthy for your dog; sweets especially chocolate can be deadly and should be avoided all together.
Many dogs suffer from anxiety and with all of the excitement of the holidays, the noise and crowds, can be a trigger. There are some holistic remedies available like HomeoPet® Anxiety that can help keep your dog calm. It is best not to allow your dog to greet strangers at the door but rather keep your dog in their crate or in a quiet room until things settle down before introducing your dog.
Lastly, never give a puppy as a gift for the holidays. While the look on a puppies face can be irresistible, your intentions noble, the responsibility of dog and pet ownership is a big one and not for everyone. If you know one of your friends or family members is serious about getting a dog, consider giving a dog leash or dog toy, better still a gift card from your favorite pet supply website. Following these hints will keep your dog and pet safe & happy during the holiday season.

Dogs are inherently aggressive creatures and are physically capable of inflicting serious harm both to humans and dogs alike. Being aggressive is understandably natural for a wild dog to hunt, to defend themselves from other creatures, and to defend resources such as food, a place to sleep, and a mate. Over the years dogs have became more tamed and man's best friend. There are dogs however, that continually become aggressive and dangerous due to lack of behavior training. Let's stop dog aggression towards other dogs and humans alike.
The two most common type of dog aggressiveness are aggression towards strangers and aggression towards family members. They become aggressive because of fear; being scared, nervous and insecure where they usually will snap, bite, and bark. Also, they are possessive or protective of the property that they feel belong to them. It can be your family, or your home, his food or toy. This type of aggression usually prevents your home from being robed.
Some dogs are aggressive because they have a dominant personality. This type of dog feels like he is the dominant animal in the area. This is not common to dogs, but studies suggest that this type of aggressive dog behavior applies only to the certain breed of dogs.
Dog owners have many resources and help to control their dog aggression problem. Below are 6 keys you the dog owner can do to stop dog aggression:
#1. First and foremost owner of an aggressive dog must do is to check with their veterinarian to rule out any medical causes for the aggressive behavior of their dog.
#2. Seek for help from a professional dog trainer. An aggression problem will not go away by itself. Working with aggression problems requires in-home help from an animal behavior specialist.
#3. Make everyone's safety as your first priority. Supervise and confine your dog's activities until you can obtain professional help. You're liable for your dog's behavior. If you must take your dog out in public, consider a cage-type muzzle as a temporary precaution.
#4. Avoid exposing your dog to situations where he is more likely to show aggression. You may need to keep him confined to a safe room and limit his people-contact.
#5. If your dog is possessive of food, treats or a certain place, don't allow him access to those items. In an emergency, bribe him with something better than what he has. For example, if he steals your shoe, trade him the shoe for a piece of chicken.
#6. Spay or neuter your dog. Intact dogs are more likely to display dominance, territorial and protective aggressive behavior.
Dogs are inherently aggressive and dangerous both to dogs and humans. If problems continues a dog owner has several resources or things they can do to correct the behavior. Most aggressive dog behavior can be controlled. All that you need to do is to find the right program out there that will teach you how to change your dogs' mindset. It is best to have the professionals take care of this problem. Also safety is paramount; take necessary precautions!

When your child sees a strange dog, make sure you teach them to ask the owner if you can say "hello" to their dog first. They will let you know immediately if their dog is aggressive and can therefore prevent any kind of an incident from happening.
Pet the Dog "Underhand"
When your child greets a new dog it's a good idea to start out by petting them "underhand" - making hand contact under the dog's jaw. This will allow the dog to see what your hand is doing at every point and will show them that you are non-threatening to them.
Pat Gently - or Scratch
There are many dogs that just don't like being patted on the head so if you do, make sure it's very gentle. But a better idea would be to scratch them gently on the chest right between the front legs or have their back scratched right above the root of the dog's tail which dogs absolutely love!. (make sure not to touch the tail)
Do Not Touch a Dogs Tail or Paws
For some reason children love to grab a dogs tail. They're easy to reach and to pull which also get a fast reaction from the dog. Dogs can't see what's behind them and if something pulls their tail they will respond very quickly and you may get bit. Paws are delicate so please don't touch them. Back in their pack-hunting days, a dogs paws were their main means of survival. Naturally they're protective of them.
Do Not Push a Jumping or Playful Dog
First of all, when you push or pull on a dog, they will automatically respond to an equal and opposite force. This means they will definitely push and pull back. To stop a dog from jumping, a child needs to stay calm so they don't encourage the dog's behavior. Dogs love the high-pitched squealing and giggling. You need to work with your whole family on having commands such as a low-pitched "down" followed by physically separating child from dog.
Do Not Play Tug of War or Contest Games
Your child needs to understand that there are certain games that actually encourage a dog's aggression because it triggers their "prey instincts". One game in particular is "tug of war". This game will give your dog a chance to show it's strength and dominance by way of a contest. It may look cute when puppies thrash a stuffed toy, jerking their head from side to side, but this is a carry-over from when wolves had to snap the spine of their protesting prey. It's not the state of mind you want to promote.
If You See A Dog Tied Up - Keep Away
No matter how friendly a dog may look when you see them tied up, never approach or pet them. They can easily feel like they are being cornered by an approaching child and will act defensively. Dogs also feel challenged by a head-on approach and by direct eye contact. This kind of confrontation invites trouble and is best avoided.
Please, No "Attack" Commands or Threats
Your child should never have the words "Sic Him" in their vocabulary. They might think it's all fun and games but dogs can't tell the difference. Also, children must not be allowed to rush towards or corner a dog because this behavior can cause very dangerous reactions.
No Reprimands
If you want to avoid confusing your dog, especially a puppy, its best that children don't do the 'telling off'. You, the owner, or a professional trainer should be the only ones to do that. A child may know the right words but your (or the professional trainer) body language will be more consistent and will be more effective.
Start With A Few Simple Rules
Teach your children the basic training as explained above. Kids love to teach other kids what they know. You'll find that if you start them with these few simple rules, the knowledge will spread and lead to a safer relationship between kids and canines.

It's a fact that dogs will ALWAYS chew. Chewing is a natural canine behaviour. Your dog needs to learn what they can and cannot chew so it's up to YOU to teach them! So let's take a look at how you can stop a dog from chewing.
WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP A DOG FROM CHEWING?
To stop a dog from chewing, it is best to start training your dog as soon as possible, as with all dog obedience problems. The reason why a puppy will chew is because they are teething between the age of 14-28 weeks and chewing helps to ease the pain and also helps with proper jaw and teeth development.
What is your dog chewing? Is he chewing your shoes, your furniture, his paws? You will find that you'll have to move some items out of your puppy's reach, until he's grown up at least. Many people will give a dog an old shoe as a chew toy. BAD MOVE! If you allow him to chew one shoe, your dog will assume he has the green light to chew ALL of your shoes!
If your dog is constantly chewing his paws, check them to ensure he hasn't got grit or dirt in them as this would irritate him. A common problem for dogs is to have a blockage in their anal glands. This is something for a qualified vet to deal with.
To stop him chewing furniture, either remove the item from the room when you're not at home or use a chewing deterrent, such as a bitter apple spray. Just spray this onto the item and your dog won't go near it as they hate the taste of this stuff!
WHAT THINGS ARE GOOD FOR MY DOG TO CHEW?
Most destructive dog chewing is done whilst the dog is home alone. It is important that before you leave the house your dog is fed and has some good exercise. If you can tire them out before you leave, they'll be too tired to chew! Just letting your dog out in the back garden isn't enough, they need a good run in the local park or field.
Your dog needs to have a variety of chewing toys of different shapes and textures. Kongs are great as you can stuff them with tasty treats such as peanut butter or cheese. Your dog will have hours of fun trying to lick the stuff out!
When looking at how to stop a dog from chewing, it's important to remember to use a sharp "NO" or another word when your dog chews something that he shouldn't. Reward your dog with a "GOOD BOY" when he's chewing his own things.
