Dog Obedience Training - Clicker training is a newer form of dog, and animal training. One reason why it's so popular, is because Clicker training uses positive dog training tactics.
training uses positive dog training tactics. In a summed up version of Clicker training, basically if an animal does something right or something they're supposed to, the trainer rewards the animal with a "click" and a treat.
I will break it down a little more for you below.
What Exactly is Clicker Training?
Clicker training is based on the natural tendencies of dogs, that they learn from their current environment. Just like people, dogs respond better to positive consequences than to negative consequences. So the idea of Clicker training is to reward your dog in a positive way and a "click" whenever they perform a desired task or do what they're told. While training your animal you always want reinforce the click and the treat as soon as your dog performs the positive behavior. The more you involve the clicker
into your dog training methods, the faster your canine will pick up on the desired behavior you are asking of them.
Clicker training brings with it some strong benefits over typical voice, and hand signals. As you may know already, dogs don't really understand the words that come out of our mouths. Dog only understand the sound that comes out of our mouth, not the actual words. One disadvantage of voice training is that with us people being the way we are, we like to talk a lot.
So while people are talking, dogs just hear a whole bunch of sounds and your voice commands can get muffled around with the rest of the sounds of daily life. With clicker training, the "Clicker" equipment makes a sharp noticeable click sound when pressed. This precise sound lets your dog understand that you are communicating with him. Being able to grab your dogs attention during the early stages of training is vital for your quick success in your dog training and obedience efforts. The Clicker method of training also lets the trainer reinforce to the dog more quickly, the good behavior that he just performed.
When ever you get started with your Clicker training, one of the first basic steps is to pair together a relationship with your dog and the clicker. What I mean by this is, you have to pair up the sound of the click with a treat your dog enjoys. Pretty soon after a few click your dog will start to look for the treat when he hears the click.
When you start to teach your dog some basic commands such as sit, lay down, & bark, it is critical to understand that you must "click" as soon as you dog performs the task at hand.
These are just some basic ideas about what Clicker training is, and how it might be able to help you in your dog training methods. Clicker training is just one in many methods used for dog obedience training. I hope this post helps you make a decision on your future dog training methods.
