Pet Obedience Training

Where to you go to have your pet trained a service animal?
My fiance and I was gave a German Shepard for a wedding gift so this puppy needs trained all around. Does he need to go to obedience school first then be trained for service animal? I have seizure and we want him trained in that area. I don't know what to do or who to call. Does the service animal people train them in obedience and is it the local hospital?
You're going about this all wrong.
Your GSD is a pet, you will probably have severe issues coming across an organization that will train a pet you already own. You need to research charities that will train the animal for you.
I have had several years experience training dogs to detect blood sugar levels and oncoming seizures. If you want to contact me, I can put you in touch with some international organizations that will help you out.
If you live in the USA, your dog will have to be trained to Canine Good Citizen standard, and by law does not have to be accredited by any organization, but I feel that the individuals who do not take the time to accredit their SDIT's *service dogs in training* are irresponsible and unworthy of public access rights.
Seizure Alert dogs are very rare, my current pup was chosen because he was reacting 95% of the time to my seizures and low blood sugars when I spent time with him. There is a big difference between the rare ability for a dog to detect an oncoming seizure and a dog that is able to assist you in making it through the seizure.
One dog will actually alert you 15-45 mins before a seizure. These dogs are really rare, about 1 in 1500 pedigree dogs (of certain breeds) will have the innate ability to detect.
The other will be trained to stay with you (hold you down) while you're seizing, they can go fetch another human, press a button on a phone to dial 911, or help with mobility issues.
To be in dire need of a Service dog, you usually need a diagnosis and need to have at least 1 Grand Mal seizure a month. This is also one requirement for most charities offering these animals as companions and life savers.
